Community Natural Gas Company seeks rate increase

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – You can comment on Community Natural Gas Company’s pending rate request.

The Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor (OUCC), the state agency representing consumer interests in cases before the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC), is reviewing the utility’s request and is expected to file testimony May 25. 2022.

The OUCC invites written customer feedback until May 18, 2022.

Community Natural Gas serves more than 7,500 customers in ten southern Indiana counties (Gibson, Posey, Dubois, Spencer, Greene, Monroe, Pike, Owen, Sullivan and Warrick).

The utility is asking for a $1.25 million increase in annual operating revenue in this case.

Community Natural Gas is also seeking to recover $275,000 in tariff filing fees. In its testimony and exhibits, Community Natural Gas states that it is seeking the increase to cover higher operating and maintenance costs and to pay for infrastructure improvements.

The utility’s testimony shows that residential bills are increasing as follows at its request:

Current community natural gas tariffs received IRC approval in 2019.

The OUCC must receive all written consumer feedback by May 18, 2022, in order to:

1) Take it into account when preparing your testimony and

2) File them with the Commission for inclusion in the formal evidentiary record of the case. Comments must include the consumer name, Addressand a reference to “IURC Case No. 45690” or Community natural gas. An IURC Evidence Hearing is currently scheduled for June 30, 2022. Although Evidence Hearings are open to the public and generally posted on the Commission’s website, participation is generally limited to questioning of technical witnesses by counsel and the Commission.

A final Commission order is currently expected in December 2022.
